The pandemic has exponentially impacted the number of students suffering with food insecurity. Prior to COVID-19, the Herbert H. Lehman Food Bank distributed grocery bags filled with fruits, vegetables, proteins and grains to ensure that the most vulnerable students had access to healthy food. When our campus closed in March, the Food Bank's services were virtually halted as students became fearful of traveling, even to campus.

The Campaign for Lehman College made it possible for the Food Bank to reimagine its services. The Food Bank created new virtual channels of distribution to meet the acute needs of our students while minimizing risks to the Lehman College community. As a result, the Food Bank experienced a 300 percent increase in students requesting gift cards to local grocery stores.
